Alto-saxophonist Henrik Walsdorff, bass player Adam Pultz Melbye and drummer Kasper Tom Christiansen first met for a three-concert tour in June 2012. The immediate musical hook-up of the three musicians resulted in the release of the CD Grøn – a recording documenting the entire third concert of the tour. Walsdorff, Melbye and Tom has toured Denmark, Norway, Poland and Germany.

The trio’s music places itself in the proud tradition of free-jazz saxophone trios without being stuck in the past. This is honest and pure improvising, using any means necessary to bring about great music.

Henrik Walsdorff is a very active player on the German scene for free jazz and improvisation and is a member of Alex von Schlippenbach’s legendary Globe Unity Orchestra. He has performed with musicians such as Aki Takase, William Parker, and Sven-Åke Johanssen. Walsdorff’s saxophone playing is a force of nature and has a strong rhythmic and melodic character that seems to embrace the whole history of jazz and improvised music in an idiosyncratic and immediately recognizable style. Kasper Tom and Adam Pultz Melbye are members of the acclaimed Scandinavian record label and musicians collective Barefoot Records and are both strong profiles on the Scandinavian scene for improvised music, having performed with the likes of Peter Brötzmann, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Tobias Delius, Tristan Honsinger, Mikolaj Trzaska and many others.

“On the whole, the music on Grøn is calm and easy, self-possessed and confident, but still energetic. It sounds like the trio has all the time in the world to develop each idea. They move in worn free-jazz paths, but flair and tranquility makes it feel fresh and comfortable.”  – http://soundofmusic.nu
